'The Adventures of Captain Ward' is the culmination of a year of fervent musical activity for The Demon Barbers.\r
\r
They won BEST LIVE ACT Award at the 2008 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards (in February 2009). In April of last year they received an invitation to play at the Yangtse River Spring Arts Festival and, during this trip, also performed at five other concerts in China. On their return, they were an acclaimed part of the St George's Day celebrations in London's Trafalgar Square. Of the latter, David Jones of major arts booking agency Serious said: 'The Demon Barbers were a revelation and everyone was blown away by their style and humour. Verity Sharp has been telling me all about the Roadshow. I hope we can find another way to work with them as soon as possible.' Over the past eight years the band has gained major recognition for their original and imaginative approach to traditional music and song. They take mainly traditional ballads, strange tales of myth and magic and coil them, twist them, make them stranger, darker, becoming tales of Gothic danger; they don't so much make folk rock as make traditional tales quiver and pulse with electricity. 'The Adventures of Captain Ward' captures all of this fresh and innovative approach.\r
\r
The Demon Barbers play two album launch gigs (North and South): 3rd June – SHEFFIELD – The Board Walk. 4th June - LONDON – The Borderline \r
'(Bellowhead)…were joined on stage by the outrageously athletic Demon Barber Roadshow for a Big Band, clog and rapper extravaganza that left the audience breathless and up for a great night's entertainment' BBC Radio 2 review of the Folk Awards 2005.
